Blog Writing Prices: How Much Does an SEO Blog Post Cost?
If you're planning your marketing budget, you've likely asked yourself a straightforward question: how much does an SEO blog post cost?
The short answer? Anywhere from $5 to over $1,000. Fiverr SEO article gigs start at $5, while some established specialists charge four figures for a single article.
That's a huge gap. No wonder blog writing prices confuse people.
When you're trying to grow organic search traffic, you need to know what a reasonable rate looks like, what you're actually paying for, and how to avoid wasting money on low-quality filler.
In this guide, I'll break down real market benchmarks, explain what drives the price of content, highlight red flags to avoid, and show you where my own pricing sits.
Freelance Writing Rates Compared
To understand what content costs across the industry, it helps to look at published rate cards and industry surveys from real writers.
Here's what the published numbers say:
| Source | What they charge | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Peak Freelance survey (2021) | $250 to $399 (most common band) | 1,500 words |
| Tyler Tafelsky | $250 | 950 to 1,250 words |
| Kenzi Writes | $0.25 per word | Priced per word |
| Fiverr scan, September 2026 | $5 to $30 (budget gigs) | Starting price |
| Rehan Jamshed (me) | $80 | Up to 1,200 words |
The details behind each number:
- The Peak Freelance survey (run in 2021) shows that $250 to $399 is the most popular rate for a 1,500-word blog post, chosen by 27% of respondents. Only 8% charge four figures or more, though half of six-figure freelance writers charge at least $1,000 per post.
- US freelance writer Tyler Tafelsky publishes a tiered rate card: $180 for 750 to 950 words, $250 for 950 to 1,250 words, $300 for 1,250 to 1,750 words, and $400 for 1,750 to 2,500 words.
- Kenzi Writes charges $0.25 per word, which includes two rounds of revisions.
- A scan of Fiverr search results in September 2026 showed that most best-selling SEO article gigs from Pakistani sellers start at $5 to $30, while premium Top Rated writing gigs start around $75 to $100.
So the price depends heavily on who you hire, where they're based and how much experience they bring.
Key Factors That Drive Content Pricing
Why is there such a big difference between a $5 to $30 gig and a $250 to $399 post? A few things explain most of it.
Research depth. Research is where most of the time goes. A good writer reads what already ranks on Google, notes what those pages miss, checks the facts and thinks about your specific reader.
Word count and scope. Longer articles need more structure, more examples and more research. That takes time.
Experience. Writers with years of client work and a solid review history charge more, because you're paying for fewer surprises.
Human or AI. An AI tool can produce a draft in seconds. Human writing with checked facts and a real point of view takes hours, and the price reflects that.
Revisions. Some writers build revision rounds into the price (Kenzi Writes includes two). Check before you order.
What You Should Expect for Your Money
Whatever you pay, you shouldn't get a block of unformatted text. You should get a draft you can publish.
First, your writer should align directly with your project brief, primary keyword, and audience search intent. They should also read the pages that already rank, so your post covers what those pages miss.
Next, you should receive clean structural formatting. That means clear headings, a meta title and a meta description.
Finally, revisions should be included so you can request adjustments before anything goes live. Everything should arrive in a clean Google Doc that your team can review and publish without needing a heavy rewrite.
Red Flags to Watch for With Cheap Content
A $5 or $10 writer is tempting on a tight budget. But if you end up rewriting the post yourself, it wasn't cheap.
Before you order, ask these questions:
- Is it written by a person? Ask directly whether they use AI to write, and ask to see live samples.
- Do they research? Ask how they check facts and whether they read what already ranks for your keyword.
- Is it original? Run the draft through a plagiarism checker before you publish it.
- Are revisions included? If the answer is no, or vague, that's a red flag.
A post nobody reads isn't a bargain at any price.
How Much Does an SEO Blog Post Cost With Me?
Fair question, since you're reading this on my site. I'm Rehan Jamshed, a freelance SEO content writer based in Lahore, Pakistan, and I've been writing for clients since 2019.
My rates are fixed by word count, so you know the cost before I start:
- $80 for articles up to 1,200 words.
- $130 for articles up to 2,000 words.
- $320 for a monthly pack of 4 articles (up to 1,200 words each).
- About $7 per extra 100 words for longer content.
Service and location pages are priced the same way. That puts me above the budget end of Fiverr and well below the $250 to $399 that's most common for a 1,500-word post.
I don't use AI to write client content. One client ran my article through Scribbr's AI detector and attached the result to their review: 0% likely AI, 100% human-written.
My work is live on client sites in the US, the UK and Dubai (see my live samples). That includes The Original Tree Surgeons (Kent, UK), Essex Structural Engineers, Radlett Structural Engineers, Gem Plastering, The Essex Garden Co, and 24 Hour Crane Lifting ("Mini Crane Hire in London").
I've also written for 800 Truck, Ana Interiors, It's Complicated, Xtreme Jet Ski Dubai, Outback Team Building, Parentaler and Searqle, plus 95 commissioned software articles for FlipHTML5 and Mango Animate since April 2025.
Caleb Schaftlein, a wedding photographer in Chicago, messaged me after his articles went live: "Hey man, yeah the articles are ranking! It's going well" and "Leads are consistent".
On Fiverr, I hold a 5.0 average from 366 reviews. One client from Ukraine wrote: "Exceptional work with deep research on the topic."
A UK client added: "He works exceptionally well to the brief that we set and completed the work on time."
The Bottom Line
So, how much does an SEO blog post cost? Anywhere from $5 to over $1,000, but the price tag is only half the question. The other half is what you get back.
A post that doesn't rank or convince anyone is expensive at any price. A four-figure article isn't automatically better, either.
For most small businesses, the sweet spot is an experienced writer who researches properly, writes it themselves and gives you a fixed price upfront.
